Harald Zwart No Longer a Part of ‘City of Ashes’

So for those of us who have been patiently waiting for any news on the ‘City of Ashes’ films, there’s a little bit of news that has surfaced.

Harald Zwart, the director of ‘City of Bones’, is no longer part of the sequel we have been pushing so much, according to Science Fiction.

You can read the whole article here, but I’ve taken out some of the main points.

Fans of ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones‘ have been waiting to hear about the progress of a sequel after hearing about the second film being delayed due to low box office returns. While the original film did make a profit, it was at a slim margin which stalled the sequel’s progress. Initially, filming for ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes’ was scheduled to start in Toronto, Canada last September before being delayed to a 2014 production. Sadly now, we are getting a new stumbling block. It was just announced that the director of the first film, Harald Zwart (‘The Karate Kid’, ‘Agent Cody Banks’), is now out of the sequel’s creation.

While the studio has made no official announcements, as of this time Zwart stated that “The studio is still certain that they will make this movie, but it’s not me who directs it. I will focus on other projects in the future. Shadow Hunters was a great experience and it gave me a good window to show off.”

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m a little saddened by this. Having spoken to Harald, he seemed very keen about doing the sequel, so I’m a little gutted. I hope we hear something a little more reliable from Sony soon. What do you guys think?

Thanks to Mundie Moms for making us aware of this!

  1. I hope they get someone better; the movie wasn’t as good as it could’ve been, and that was partly his fault so maybe This is a good thing , I just hope they don’t get someone who does a worse job

  2. Well I’m a very big fan of the Mortal Instruments book series and I sort of no I’m sorry to say this but I have to well because you see people think that what they do and how they want to get there is the right way but there is many different ways that I could of filmed and scenes they could of used to make the movie make sense and not merge with the second book it’s just common sense so you see maybe then it would of made more money and possibly more than you even expected

    • heya. yes i agree. hindsight is a glorious thing. obviously Harald and everyone else involved in the film thought that how it was being shot was good. hopefully the new director will be able to improve on the first film.

  3. they should like get one of the several directors
that has a reputation for adapting books to film and doing a good job at it like one of the ones that did the twilight saga cause they done well. or just any other director like the one who is doing the hunger games abd divergent trilogys.

  4. i thought it was very good and cannot wait for the the next city of ashes i did read all the book because of the movie looking forward to the next move i am 54 year old and now i have my daughter reading the books .
